Fire at Park Street building

A fire broke out on Sunday on the seventh floor of the Apeejay House at Park Street.

Flames were detected around noon at the building housing the office of the city-based diversified business conglomerate Apeejay Surendra Group after which 12 fire tenders were pressed into service, fire brigade officials said.

However, there was no report of any casualty or injuries so far. Firemen were unable to contact Apeejay House officials.

Being a Sunday, the offices are closed. Besides, there was unconfirmed reports of smoke billowing from the basement of the building, which also houses portion of Park Hotel.

Incidentally, the building is located near the landmark British-era Stephen Court building, which was devastated by a major fire last year that claimed 43 lives.
