Five held in connection with Chennai boy's death
Five persons, including a Physical Education Director of a prominent city school, were on Thursday arrested after a fourth standard student drowned in the institution's swimming pool, police said.
The Swimming Coach, Swimming Pool-in-charge, Guard and Assistant Guard were the others arrested this evening, after an FIR was filed, they said.
Police identified the deceased as Ranjan, son of Tamil film director Manoharan, a student of the Padma Seshadri Bala Bhawan at K.K. Nagar here.
The incident occurred during the swimming period on Thursday morning and when trainers noticed him in an unconscious state they rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead, police said.
In another incident at suburban Chromepet, a four year-old boy was crushed to death when a milk-laden auto ran over him.
The incident happened when the driver kept the van engine on and stepped out. The vehicle moved and hit Tamilarasan, who was standing nearby with his mother, killing him on the spot.
The driver was arrested, police added.
