Five killed in car-bus smash

Tiruvannamalai: Five persons belonging to the same family were killed on the spot while the condition of the one of the family members is said to be critical after their vehicle collided with a private bus on Tuesday early morning.
According to the East police, Perumal (alias) Kaliyaperumal (60), Selvi (50), wife of Kaliyaperumal, Manjula (25), wife of Ravi, Suriya (5) and Arya (3), both sons of Ravi, and resident of Muthalamman Kovil Street, Tiruvannamalai, were travelling in their car, purchased recently, towards Villupuram on Tuesday.
Ravi, son of Kaliyaperumal, was driving the car, and when it was close to Eandhal village, near here, Ravi tried to overtake a bullock cart and an autorickshaw, but did not notice the private bus headed towards Tiruvannamalai from Villupuram in the opposite direction. In the head-on collision with the bus, except Ravi, all others in the car died on the spot.
Ravi was rushed to the Vellore CMC with grievous injuries, the police said. East police inspector Palani has registered a case.
