Five-month-old killed, thrown into canal
A five-month-old boy who went missing from his home in Korukkupet on Wednesday night was found murdered in a sewage canal behind the house on Thursday morning.
Gokul, son of Gomathi and Rajesh of the 3rd street in Ambedkar Nagar, went missing when his mother went to a nearby shop on Wednesday at 9 pm.
Gomathi claimed that she asked her sister-in-law to take care of the child when she went out, but found the baby missing when she returned.
“Gokul’s father Rajesh works in a lathe unit in the neighbourhood. Gomathi has a four-year-old daughter named Libiya from her first marriage,” the police said.
It is clear that someone had carried the child from the house and murdered him before dumping the body in the canal, the police said.
The police has indicated that it could not be a case of human sacrifice but pointed out that the case looks more like one of taking revenge on the family.
“It is possible that Gomathi’s first husband had decided to take revenge on her by killing the child. We are certainly probing that angle as well though we think that is only a remote possibility,” a police officer said.
The police is also investigating if any anti-social person had committed the crime to settle a score with the family. Police sources said that the family had recently passed on information about a criminal to the police.
“We are questioning the family members and other relatives to solve the puzzle,” the police said on Thursday evening.
