Five youths travelling atop train die after hitting overbridge
Five youths travelling atop the Gwalior-Udaipur Express were killed and four others were injured when they were hit by a railway overbridge between Ajmer and Bhilwara railway stations on Sunday.
The victims, who were in the age group of 22-25, were on their way to Bhilwara to appear in an exam. The youths, who began their journey from Ajmer at 1.35 am, were traveling atop the train as it was overcrowded.
"When the train halted at Bhilwara station, students informed the security guard about the incident," Station Superintendent (Bhilwara) Anil Sharma said. All the victims were rushed to a government hospital where five identified as Kamlesh, Anil, Shivpratap, Parmeshwar and Eamesh were declared dead.
Four are hospitalised and their condition is stated to be stable. A northwestern railway spokesperson said in Jaipur that though elaborate security arrangement was in place at stations in view of the exam, some of the students managed to sit atop the train. He said the matter was under investigation.
