Flash floods claim six lives, 36,000 affected in Andhra Pradesh
Adilabad/Khammam: As many as six people lost their lives as Godavari swelled to more than 60 feet. Five persons drowned in the flood waters of Godavari in two incidents that took place at Dahegoan and Chennur mandals.
Flash floods wreaked havoc in 130 villages along the course of the Godavari. The water levels in the river began to increase rapidly from 43 ft, the first warning mark, at 9 am on Thursday to 59.3 feet to 60.5 ft at 8 pm on Friday.
The flood level in Bhadrachalam stands at over 7 ft. A 30-year old man, E. Suresh, of Veerapuram village under Cherla mandal, was swept away in floodwaters. A total of 36,000 people have been affected and over 4,000 people were moved to 49 relief centres spread across 14 mandals.
