Flight-curious teen creates scare at Cochin Airport

Kiran, a 14-year-old from Thrissur, came all the way to Cochin Airport with Rs100 in hand to have a close view of flights.

The viewers gallery, however, could not satisfy his curiosity and he jumped out and ran towards the runway to touch a plane. He was apprehended midway by the security staff.

Kiran, studying in 9th standard, is son of Kishore of Peringottukara, Thrissur. Airport officials said the boy brought a ticket to viewers gallery. Not happy with the view, he decided to enter the runway. He jumped gate 5 and reached the northern side of bay 9, where was apprehended.

According to preliminary probe by Central Industrial Security Force, the boy had no plan but to see and touch an aircraft. Family members were summoned to Nedumbassery Police Station and the boy was handed over, they said.

Airport officials, Central Industrial Security Force and State Police convened an immediate meeting to take stock of the situation after the incident.
