FM channels to air shows in Marathi
Major FM channels in Mumbai have agreed to play Marathi songs on their channels following a warning by the Shiv Sena. Sena chief Bal Thackeray had given all FM players in Mumbai a seven-day deadline to start airing Marathi songs on July 11.
MP and Shiv Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut on Friday said that Radio Mirchi would start playing Marathi songs from August 1, while Red FM will start playing these songs from July 18. “All FM channels have agreed to air shows playing Marathi songs at the earliest. Radio Mirchi has sent a letter to Mr Thackeray stating that they will air Marathi songs from August 1, while Red FM will starting a show with Marathi music director Swapnil Joshi from July 18,” Mr Raut said.
According to a Sena official, city FM channels have also promised to increase the number of Marathi programmes in the future. “The channels will increase the Marathi shows,” he said.
