Foreign jurists’ panel condemns Pak lawyers
The Pakistan Bar has come under sever criticism by a body of international jurists, especially those form the third world countries for failing to rein in the lawyers from openly praising the assassin of Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer while he was being produced in the court in Islamabad and showering rose petals on him.
“The International Bench & Bar Association (IBBA) expresses shock over the action of certain members of the Bar of Pakistan in showering rose petals and garlands over Mulik Mumtaz Hussain Quadri when produced before a magistrate in Islamabad in connection with the assassination of Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer,” IBBA president and senior Supreme Court lawyer Ravi Prakash Gupta said in a statement here.
The IBBA is a body registered in India with members in several countries, especially Asia and Africa. Several retired judges of the Supreme Court and high courts of the respective nations are also the members of the body, which holds its annual meetings in different countries every year to take stock of the criminal justice system, human rights and other legal issues.
