Former Union minister booked on rape charges
A sadhvi has lodged an FIR against BJP leader and former Union minister Swami Chinmayanand accusing him of raping and attempting to murder her, a charge dismissed by him as ‘politically motivated’.
The sadhvi, former manager of Swami's Mumukshu ashram in neighbouring Shahjahanpur district, had sent a complaint in this regard to the Superintendent of Police a couple of days ago, police said.
She appeared in person at the SP's office, Shahjahanpur, on following which the FIR was registered by Kotwali police.
According to the complaint, the sadhvi had been living at the house of Chinmayanand, a former MP from Jaunpur, in Delhi since 2001 for gaining political and spiritual knowledge.
She alleged that in 2005, Chinmayanand's guards on his directives brought her to the ashram where she was physically abused after being drugged.
The act was also video-graphed which he used to blackmail her, according to the complaint. Meanwhile, Chinmayanand, who was the Union Minister of State for Home in the NDA regime, has termed the charges as ‘unfounded’ and ‘politically motivated’.
