Four including two children killed in fire at godown

Four persons including two children were killed when a major fire broke out in a godown here this morning, Fire department official said.

Saurabh (5), Rishabh Kumar (7), Mamta (28) and Sanjay Tiwari (35) have died in the incident, he said adding the cause of the fire has not been ascertained so far.

The victims were trapped inside when the fire broke out at Rajdhani Transport godown on Asaf Ali Road near Ajmeri Gate here at around 9.45 AM, he said. It took firemen an hour to douse the blaze, the official said.

Besides the death of four persons, two others sustained burn injuries in the fire, which broke out on the ground floor of the multi-storey godown of Rajdhani Transport Company, police said, adding that it took seven fire-tenders over an hour to douse the flames.

Meera Devi, the wife of deceased Sanjay Tiwari and their 5-year-old son Lucky were injured and undergoing treatment at JPN Hospital here. They have sustained over 40 per cent burns.

Though the cause of fire was not known, police suspect that it was due to a short circuit. A case of causing death due to negligence has been registered at Hauz Qazi police station.
