Free medical aid for girls, students

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced free medical facilities for all girls, going to schools and colleges, and students between 6 years and 16 years in government schools.
The state government has also announced a free ambulance service for the economically weaker section and has waived the admission fee for outdoor patients in hospitals.
Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav flagged off 200 new ambulances under the UP Ambulance Services (UPAS) scheme in the state to strengthen the health system in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Yadav announced that the `35 admission fee collected from the patients in the government hospital was been waived off with immediate effect.
“The Samajwadi Party government is committed to improving the health system in the state by appointing more paramedical staff and doctors, besides, more than 1,000 ambulances will be pressed into service by October,” he said.
The chief minister admitted that there was a shortage of doctors and paramedical staff in the state and said that the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scam during the previous government had given a bad name to the state. He said that the manner in which the NRHM scam and the murders of medical officials took place had brought disrepute to the state.
Mr Yadav said that several senior officials and doctors were in jail while the CBI was still hunting for the murderers of the two CMOs and one deputy CMO.
Mr Yadav further said that some persons who are innocent have been implicated in the NRHM scam.
The chief minister said that the Samajwadi Party had promised to provide medical care to the poorest of the poor and the government was working towards it.
“Very soon, there will be one ambulance at every block and the toll free number service will also be started at the earliest. The intention is to ensure that the poor and destitute get medicines and treatment with minimum effort on their part,” the chief minister said. Mr Yadav admitted that doctors were not reaching rural areas.
