Fresher assaulted, stripped in Uttar Pradesh

A fresher was physically abused, stripped, forced to consume liquor and perform indecent acts by some students of a government-run engineering college in Uttar Pradesh's Sultanpur district, officials said on Friday.

According to officials, four senior students of Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology on late Wednesday forcibly took a fresher to a private place while he was buying something from a shop near the college in Sultanpur, some 150 km from Lucknow.

The four first directed Kumar to dance like a stripper. When he refused, the students started kicking him and also hit him repeatedly on his head with hard objects. Later, they removed his clothes and forced him to consume liquor.

The victim registered a complaint of ragging with the college authorities late Thursday evening. "The first year student is able to recognise the seniors by their faces and not by names. We will take the fresher in classes of seniors to identify the four students," Dipendra Singh, college registrar, told IANS.
