Friday disaster toll at 145, no Maoists in FIR
The toll in Frid-ay’s train derailment rose to 145 as bodies continued to be extracted on Saturday. The stench of rotting flesh and the scorching sun overhead only added to the woes of the rescue teams.
Meanwhile, even as the railway minister blamed Maoists for the accident, an FIR lodged on behalf of the railways failed to mention them as the accused party.
“An FIR has been lodged by the driver of the passenger train with the Jhargram GRP. It doesn’t mention names or any organisation,” said additional DGP (railways) Dilip Mitra. Sources said that it mentions a blast after which the train derailed.
