Future tense for parties

Hyderabad: Political circles are abuzz with theories regarding the fate of the political parties in the upcoming elections if the state is bifurcated.
Many feel that bifurcation of the state will bring about a lot of changes in the political scenario, especially if it is before the next general elections. Experts feel that the Congress will be the biggest loser in Seemandhra and the Telugu Desam in Telangana.
At this point, both the Congress and the Telangana Rashtra Samiti are claiming to be ahead in Telangana. TRS leaders say that they have the support of the people as the party has been fighting for a separate state for more than a decade.
However, after a state is formed, the TRS will have to rethink their strategy as their main poll plank, the Telangana sentiment, won’t work any longer.
Party sources said that the TRS will highlight the suicides of youths, blaming the Congress for the same.
Congress leaders, meanwhile, are confident that the party will fare well in the polls — both in Parliament and the Assembly — if a Telangana state is formed. Their theory is that the people of Telangana will support the Congress as it would be thanks to the party that the state has been formed.
Congress leaders are of the opinion that after the formation of Telangana, the TRS will have no further role to play as it won’t be left with an agenda.  Both the TRS and the Congress, however, will take potshots at the TDP for its dual stand on the Telangana issue.
The YSR Congress, meanwhile, will not have much to take to the electorate in Telangana other than talking about YSR to garner sympathy votes.
In Seemandhra, the fight will be between the YSRC and the TD and both parties will attack the Congress for bifurcating the state. In fact, Congress leaders from Seemandhra are openly saying that if the state is divided, it will be the end of the party in Seemandhra. They have also conveyed the same to the high command.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
