Gadkari: Change laws to ensure Kasab hanging
Reiterating his party’s opposition to dialogue with Pakistan, Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari launched yet another broadside against the export of terror from across the border in calling for a change in Indian laws to ensure prompt punishment for terrorists like Ajmal Kasab.
“Afzal Guru, who was pronounced guilty by the Supreme Court has still not been sent to the gallows. It will be a similar story with the man responsible for the terror attack on Mumbai.” Mr Gadkari said in response to a question at a press meet in Chandigarh on Thursday, pointing out the contrast of David Headley and the American judicial system.
Asked if his party agreed with large sections of Indians who want to see an early hanging for Kasab, the BJP chief said, “terrorists must be punished and if our laws need to be changed to ensure this then the laws must be amended.”
Earlier, Mr Gadkari said the government of Pakistan must prove its credibility and sincerity for before India can engage it in any worthwhile dialogue. “Pakistan must prove its credibility through evident action against home-grown terrorism before any talks,” he declared marking his disapproval of the upcoming ministerial talks in June, July.
