Gadkari: Rahul lacks charisma
BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Thursday said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi lacked charisma. Mr Gadkari also claimed that the Bihar Assembly elections results, in which Rahul is leading the Congress campaign, will prove that Rahul’s charisma is only a media hype.
“There is no reason to have affection for Rahul. People only know him as the son of Rajiv Gandhi, grandson of Indira Gandhi and great grandson of Jawaharlal Nehru. But he has not done anything that has benefited the people. Congress is a proprietary concern and BJP is a democratic party,” Mr Gadkari said.
According to the BJP president, the publicity given to Rahul does not reflect his actual popularity. When asked how the BJP plans to face the challenge posed by Rahul, he said, “Rahul does no have any charisma. The Bihar elections are going to be a litmus test for his leadership”.
Speaking about the progress of his own party since he became the president, Mr Gadkari claimed that BJP’s strength has been increasing. “In the last six months, BJP’s poll strength has been increasing, be it at the state level or at the municipal corporations right from Gujarat to Daman and Diu,” he said.
Senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde also said that the Congress wouldn’t win the Bihar elections. However, he admitted that the Congress would consolidate its position in Bihar under Rahul’s leadership.
