Gay rights activist's murder: Virtual world shocked
Members of the social media like Facebook and Twitter strongly condemned the brutal murder of gay activist Anil Sadanandan who was found murdered at his quarters in Thankassery, Kollam, on Thursday.
Sadanandan was an active member on Facebook till Wednesday night and had 151 friends from different stratas of society who discussed various social causes. He was also active in the prevention of HIV Aids.
Noted theatre performer Kusruthi Kani who works with the Footsbarn Travelling Theatre, Portugal, and who was a friend of Sadanandan’s wrote on his wall that she was shocked and very upset about his brutal murder.
She said the challenges posed by an intolerant society normally push gays, lesbians or anybody, who even slightly differs from the main stream, to the extent of committing suicide.
On Twitter, Hortensia Charlotte, an animal rescuer activist, from North America tweeted that the “rights of gays should be respected everywhere”.
Vidya Gopalakrishnan a designer from Kerala tweeted that “Anil’s murder is a brutal signal from the murdering homophobic patriarchy that trans people have no right to live”
Meanwhile the police team probing the murder case is tracing call details of mobile numbers used by Sadanandan from May 1 with the help of the cyber cell.
The preliminary autopsy report states that a deep cut on Sadanandan’s throat caused his death.
His remains were taken to his house in Ayiramthengu for the final rites.
