Geelani calls week-long protests
Reiterating there can be no talks with India unless it “unambiguously” declares Kashmir as a dispute and meets others conditions set forth by his faction of the Hurriyat Conference for any discourse, senior separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Saturday announced a new calendar of week-long protests and strikes as part of its “Quit Jammu and Kashmir” campaign.
Three days have been exempted from strike call including August 14, Pakistan’s Independence Day. “There will be no strike on August 14 when people will pray for the incomparability of Pakistan but will observe August 15-India’s Independence Day-as a black day,” he said charging New Delhi with “genocide” in Kashmir. The other two days taken off the hook are August 8 (for making purchases) and August 12 from 12 noon, onwards to “welcome” the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.
The octogenarian leader asked people to observe a complete shutdown on August 9 and hold peaceful protests in open besides offering all five prayers on roads. Next day, the people will follow graffiti and display banners with “Go India, go back” slogan written on them.
