Geelani turns down parole
Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani, who was shifted to a hospital from the Srinagar central prison last week, has refu-sed to be released on parole.
According to his son Naseem, officials of the Srinagar central jail and SDPO (Hazratbal) Masood-uz-Zamaan visited him at the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical S
ciences here on Friday evening and Saturday morning, respectively, to offer releasing him on a one-month parole. “The jail authorities had brought with them the relevant documents to seek Geelani Sahib’s signatures but he refused and told them that if the government was sincere in setting him free they should first release other political prisoners... and hundreds of youth picked up on charge of stone-pelting and similar alleged offences,” he said.
