Geeta, Sonia meet fuels Dy CM talk
New Delhi, Dec. 3: Amidst speculation that she might become the deputy chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, the state’s major industries minister, Ms Geetha Reddy, called on the Congress supremo, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, on Friday.
The meeting has political significance in the backdrop of reports that a person from Telangana will be made the deputy chief minister.
Ms Geetha Reddy is an MLA from Telangana and a Dalit and this could work in her favour.
The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee chief, Mr D. Srinivas, who arrived in Delhi this evening, also said that the post of deputy chief minister would go to Telangana.
“Don’t worry about it,” he told reporters, “Whenever the high command decides to create the post, it will be given to Telangana.”
In a related development, the Congress core committee met at the residence of the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, and took stock of the situation in AP where some ministers created ruckus over portfolios but later fell in line.
Mr Veerappa Moily, the party in-charge for AP, also attended the meeting as a special invitee.
