Girl cycles 20 km for exam, faints
A girl student of a Chhattisgarh village on Saturday fainted in the examination centre after cycling nearly 25 km to reach there to appear the Class 10 final test, being conducted by Board of Secondary Education (BSE) of the state.
Ganeshi Kaibarta, 14, a resident of Sunsunia in Baloda Bazar district, felt uneasy after reaching her examination centre at Laban after traversing a distance of 25 km in her bicycle and dragged herself somehow to her seat in the examination hall and fainted due to exhaustion and suspected heat stroke.
She had to be rushed to the nearby government hospital.
But, by the time she recovered, the examination was over.
The girl, a dalit, was virtually hit by trauma when she learnt after her recovery that she lost a year.
“She was in unconscious state for almost two and half hours. We suspect she has been hit by heat stroke. But, she was traumatised to learn that she has lost a year because of the unfortunate incident. She is currently undergoing trauma treatment,” doctors at the Baloda Bazar district headquarters hospital, where she has been admitted, told this newspaper.
When contacted girl’s father, Nilisa Kaibarta, said she started from her village at around 5 am on her bicycle to reach Laban by 7 am.
She was also in empty stomach.
