Girl gang raped in basement of Ghaziabad mall

A girl was lured to a shopping mall in Ghaziabad, dragged inside a Scorpio SUV by three youths, driven to the basement of the mall and gang raped inside the car, police said on Friday.

Although the incident occurred on Thursday, it came to light only on Friday after police registered the case.

Police said the girl was invited to a breakfast meeting by a friend, a girl, to EDM Mall situated on the Delhi-Ghaziabad border. When the girl went to the mall, she was joined by her friend and three youths. The five had breakfast at a food joint.

After breakfast, the friend left for her home, leaving the victim alone with the youths at the EDM Mall. The youths then took the girl in their Scorpio jeep and drove to the basement of Metro Mahagun Mall.

Two of the youths then raped the girl inside the Scorpio. After committing the rape, the youths left the girl outside the mall and fled. The victim then went to the police station and lodged a complaint with the Indirapuram police.

On her complaint, the police registered a criminal case under section 376 of IPC and sent the girl for medical examination. The incident came to light only on Friday after the police registered a case and formalised other legal obligations, including medical examination.

"We have registered a case against Nabboo Bhati and Sandeep. Nabboo, a resident of district Gautam Budh Nagar, has been detained for questioning while Sandeep is absconding. Attempts are being made to nab him," said Senior Superintendent of Police Prashant Kumar.
