Girl, man held for selling semi-automatic weapons
New Delhi: Two persons, including a 20-year-old girl, were arrested in the national capital for allegedly selling semi-automatic weapons to criminals, police said today.
Jainab Nisha, who is pursuing Class XII through Open School stream, and Riyaz Mohammed alias Pappu (42) were apprehended from Wazirbad yesterday on a tip off, a senior police official said.
Mohammed allegedly used to purchase weapons from Munger in Bihar and some other places in Jharkhand, the official said.
"The gang used to send Nisha to ferry the weapons to the capital from Munger and other places. They used to conceal it in footwear packets. Being a woman, she used to escape a thorough checking," the official said. Mohammed is a resident of Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh while Nisha stays in the capital.
Besides pursuing her studies, she also does part-time job. Four .32 bore semi-automatic weapons were recovered allegedly from them, the official said adding 'the gang used to bring these weapons from Bihar and Jharkhand and used to sell it to criminals in the National Capital Region'.
