Goa police nexus case: Swedish model to depose before CBI
A Swedish model, who is a key witness in a case pertaining to the alleged nexus between Goa Police and an international drug peddler, has agreed to depose before CBI in this connection, sources said.
According to the sources privy to the development, the apex investigation agency has secured a response from Lucky Farmhouse, a model and former girlfriend of the Israeli drug peddler Yaniv Benaim alias Atala, to depose in the case.
"But it will take a little time as she is busy with her assignments and right now not in Sweden," a senior official stated.
The Central agency is yet to decide whether Farmhouse's statement be recorded in Goa or any other place convenient to her in India, the sources said.
The policemen-drug peddler nexus was exposed through a video tape shot by the model during her stay in Goa way back in 2008. The tape, which remained unnoticed for almost two years grabbed the media attention only in year 2010 after it resurfaced.
In a major embarrassment to police establishment, seven policemen, besides Atala, were arrested after the sensational expose. The Goa bench of Bombay High Court recently directed CBI to take over the investigations from the Goa Crime Branch following its failure to crack up the case.
The prime accused, Atala, who had awarded bail jumped it before being arrested by the Interpol in Peru in January.
In a latest development, the Peru government informed Goa Crime Branch about their willingness to hand over the custody of Atala, lodged in that country since his arrest in January.
According to sources, the statements of Atala and Farmhouse would help them decide the future course of investigation.
