Goa youth kills self to ‘protect’ sister
Fearing that his elder sister would be raped on the behest of his girlfriend’s brothers, 21-year-old Arjun Mainkar committed suicide recently in his house in North Goa.
The police said that Arjun, who is the son of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s cook, Mr Bablo, had shot an MMS clip of his underage girlfriend and himself in a compromising position. The said clip had later gone viral in his village, Morlem.
The two families had apparently come together and it had been decided that Arjun and the girl would get married to avoid a scandal. However, the girl’s mother and her three brothers were not content and would often threaten Arjun.
The brothers had even threatened Arjun of hiring goons to rape his sister so that his family would go through the same shame that they had.
Arjun hanged himself at his residence recently and in the suicide note in Marathi, he asked the government to take criminal action against his girlfriend’s family.
