Godhra SIT may name ex-minister, top cops
New Delhi, Oct. 26: The Gujarat Chief Minister, Mr Narendra Modi, who had undergone a sustained interrogation by the SIT in connection with the post-Godhra riots in view of a petition in the Supreme Court by the widow of slain Congress MP Ehsan Jafri alleging his “involvement”, virtually seems to be out of the “shadow” of the SIT.
This emerged from the crucial hearing in the SC’s special bench after the SIT chairman, Mr R.K. Raghavan, was asked by the court about the status of the probe.
“The investigation is complete. Three individuals (are) involved in the case and we have sought legal opinion,” Mr Raghavan said, without identifying the three persons.
He apparently was referring to the former Gujarat home minister, Mr Goardhan Zadafia, the former DGP, Mr M.K. Tandon, and the IG (CID), Mr P.B. Gondia, whose names had emerged from the first SIT report submitted in May and the top court had granted permission to Raghavan’s team to interrogate them.
The SIT had sustained interrogation of Mr Zadafia, Mr Tandon and Mr Gondia.
Mr Raghavan sought more time for legal opinion and submitting the final report. The court adjourned the case till December 2.
