Gogoi’s U-turn on force delay
In what has sparked a speculation in the Congress circle about the fate of Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, the UPA chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi who was scheduled to accompany Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his visit to trouble-torn Kokrajhar district on Saturday, pulled out almost at the last moment.
Indicating that Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi’s statement accusing Central government for delay in sending security forces has not gone down well in the Congress circle, the party insiders said that Mr Gogoi was not even informed about Mrs Gandhi not accompanying Prime Minister to Assam on Saturday.
This was visible on Saturday when Assam chief minister retracted from his remark by intervening in to the press conference of Prime Minister.
Mr Gogoi who was obviously upset over media highlighting his Friday’s remark pointing finger towards Central government, lost his cool and angrily chipped in to respond a reporter’s question to PM on delay in sending the security forces. “I never said this... I never accused Centre,” Mr Gogoi responded.
