Gogoi slams Oppn for corruption charges against Cong
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi slammed the Opposition for levelling corruption charges against his government and termed it false and fabricated.
Visibly upset over the charges, Mr Gogoi told reporters, “There is not a single instance when the Opposition has been able to bring in any direct charge against me or my ministers but they have been harping on corruption just to mislead the electorate.”
Predicting that the Congress party was going to get the majority in the ensuing Assembly elections, Mr Gogoi said, “BJP leaders don’t have any right to criticise them as the NDA government failed to do anything for the state during the six years of their rule at the Centre. Whatever development has come to the state was during the UPA rule.” He said AIUDF, AGP and BJP will lose the election.
Mr Gogoi however clarified that if AIUDF is willing to join the Congress government, he would not oppose.
“You see we are going to get the majority on our own but Bodoland People’s Front will remain our partner. The AIUDF has already announced that they would support the party which forms the government. If they are coming to us voluntarily why should I oppose it,” said Mr Gogoi who had openly opposed to take AIUDF support in 2006.
The Congress was short of nine seats and the AIUDF had won 10 seats in 2006 but Mr Gogoi preferred to go with nine seats of BPF besides taking support from independents.
Claiming that high turnout of electorate in the first phase would help the ruling party, he said, “We will win 45 to 46 of the 62 Assembly seats that went to the polls in the first phase polling on April 4.”
