Gogoi: Won’t quit under pressure from dissidents
Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi here on Thursday announced that he was not going to resign under any pressure while attributing his success in making Assam a fastest growing state of country to Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Mr Gogoi also told reporters that he was not going to resign under any pressure. “I will continue to be the chief minister. The dissidence is a big zero,” he asserted.
Earlier, replying a debate on the state budget in the Assam Assembly, chief minister said that state has succeeded in making prog-ress only because Congress led UPA government was in power at the Centre. “It was the pro-active financial assistance of the union government that I have succeeded in brining about such a changes in the state,” he said.
Bogged down by dissidence engineered by a section of party leaders, Mr Gogoi lauded the contribution of veteran Congress leaders for laying down a strong foundation for development in their previous tenure as ministers. “I can not forget the robust foundation laid by my former ministers and present MLAs like Sarat Barkatoky and Anjan Dutta who in their earlier terms performed excellently,” said Mr Gogoi in an obvious reference to some of his ministers.
