Good news, says BJP on court notice over Ramdev

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday welcomed as “good news” the Supreme Court notice to top officials of the central and Delhi governments on the eviction of yoga guru Baba Ramdev from the Ramlila ground a day earlier.

“I have to give you information which may be good news for you. The Supreme Court has taken cognisance of the June 4 incident,” leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj said at Rajghat here. She said the apex court has taken cognisance of the eviction of Ramdev and his supporters after midnight Saturday from the Ramlila ground while he was holding a fast against corruption.

It asked the Central and Delhi governments to explain how and why the incident occurred and respond in two weeks. Swaraj said the judiciary was mandated to restore balance if any excesses are committed by the executive. “We express our gratitude to the judiciary,” Swaraj said here.
