Goondaraj across state, Karnataka guv tells PM
New Delhi, July 14: Upping the ante against the mining mafia in the state, the Karnataka governor Hans Raj Bhardwaj called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Union home minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, on Wednesday and apprised them about the situation.
He also sought the appointment of the Chief Justice to the Karnataka High Court on a priority
basis as incumbent P.D. Dinakaran is set to move out.
Mr Bhardwaj is learnt to have informed the Prime Minister that goondaraj prevails across Karnataka. Without asking for a CBI probe, he reportedly asked the Union government to take appropriate measures to fix the rot in Karnataka.
He is understood to have asked the Central government to take the views of the Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on the matter.
Mr Bhardwaj asked the Prime Minsiter to look into the illegal mining issue and ensure that such looting does not occur anywhere in the country. Official source said Mr Bhardwaj was very particular about the removal of the Reddy brothers from the state Cabinet.
Sources said the Governor also took up with Mr Chidambaram the issue of Lokayukta Santosh Hegde’s recent resignation and subsequent withdrawal.
