Government asked to notify CBI probe into Batcha's death
The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Central government to issue a notification for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of Sadiq Batcha — an associate of former communications minister A. Raja and an alleged accomplice in the 2G spectrum scam.
Batcha was the managing director of Greenhouse Promoters, considered to be a front organisation of the former minister. He allegedly committed suicide at his home in Chennai March 16. The apex court bench of justice G.S. Singhvi and justice A.K. Ganguly issued the direction after the government said it would require seven days' time to issue the notification. The government said the Tamil Nadu government has agreed to hand over the probe to the CBI.
