Govt to citizens: cooperate

The Centre has asked citizens to cooperate during the conduct of the houselisting and Census 2011 exercise stating that enumerators were facing problems in carrying out the exercise due to “misconceived apprehensions” of certain citizens.
Under Census 2011, the first phase of house listing and housing census, along with collection of data on national population register, has commenced with effect from April 1 in a phased manner covering 29 states and Union Territories till May, 2010, the home ministry said in a release.
It has been observed from the feedback received from enumerators and supervisors pressed into service for undertaking the gigantic task that there have been misconceived apprehensions in the minds of some habitants which prevent them to actively take part in this huge exercise, the official release said.
This not only hinders the functioning of government servants in performing duties but also will seriously hamper the progress of the unique exercise undertaken by the government for the first time in the history of the nation by directly involving 25 lakh enumerators and supervisors, it said.
The ministry said that on the completion of the entire exercise, each usual resident will get a unique ID card for the first time.

Move HC, father of ‘encounter’ victim advised
Age Correspondent
New Delhi

After receiving the affidavit of the Uttar Pradesh government on the alleged “fake encounter” of Rajasthan youth Saleem at a village in Mathura, the Supreme Court on Monday directed the victim’s father first move the high court for any relief.
A vacation bench, declining to entertain the writ petition Saleem’s father Jhadmal directly, stated that he should first move the Allhahbad HC, which is the court of appropriate jurisdiction. The direction was given by the bench after UP’s additional advocate general Shail Dwivedi stated that the body of Saleem, whom the state police had described as an accused in a car theft case, was handed over to his relatives on the same day on May 16.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
