Govt likely to cancel Isro deal
The Centre is likely to cancel the controversial deal Isro’s commercial arm Antrix Corporation had signed with a private firm for utilising scarce S-band spectrum following a meeting of the Union Cabinet next week.
A decision to cancel the deal between Antrix Corporation with Devas Multimedia is likely to be taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet to be held next week, official sources said.
Under the pact, Antrix had agreed to lease upto 90 per cent transponders on two Isro satellites — GSAT-6 and GSAT-6A — to Devas Multimedia for Digital Broadcast Audio Service. Ahead of the Cabinet meeting, the Space Commission is scheduled to meet on Saturday and is understood to have discussed the matter.
The meeting comes in the wake of Isro’s public admission of not keeping complete facts regarding the controversial spectrum deal before the Commission and the Union Cabinet.
Isro officials said a meeting of the Space Commission, which formulates India’s space programme, was scheduled for Saturday.
