Attacking BJP for disrupting Parliament proceedings, government on Wednesday said it was making all efforts to persuade the main opposition party to discuss the CAG report on coal block allocation.

"We are making all efforts to persuade opposition to come for discussion," Law Minister Salman Khurshid told reporters after Parliament was paralysed for the second day running with the BJP pressing for resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the issue.

The Minister also rejected the opposition's demand for Singh's resignation, saying, "Entire nation accepts that we are fortunate to have such a Prime Minister and that such a Prime Minister is leading us."

Khurshid termed as 'unfortunate' the continuous disruption of Parliament where MPs come 'every morning with hope, expectations and aspirations of the people of our the country'.

"We are frustrating (the people) because we are unable to speak to each other. We (government) have offered a full debate and we are willing to offer every thing that we have and place that before the people, to the House," he said.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Harish Rawat and Minister of State for Power K.C. Venugopal also hit out at the BJP for disrupting the House proceedings.

"Issues of drought and flood were listed for discussion in Lok Sabha. In the Rajya Sabha, the discussion on price rise was listed. These are issues which are very much concerned with common man," Rawat said.

"They (BJP) are not interested in having a discussion on the issues that they have raised in the House. It is a very unfortunate situation," Venugopal said.

Ridiculing BJP for demanding a debate in Parliament on allocation of coal blocks only after the Prime Minister's resignation, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni asked as to who would the opposition members discuss with if Singh steps down.

"They (BJP) are saying that they will debate on the issue after the Prime Minister's resignation. But with whom will you discuss if he resigns," she asked.

"If you have strong evidence relating to the scam and if you want to put this before the public, then debate is the best option," she told reporters outside Parliament, asserting that stalling the House was no solution.

She also came down heavily on senior BJP leaders who raised slogans in both the Houses. "I feel sorry that senior party leaders were raising slogans... did the public elect them for this", she wondered.

Gurudas Dasgupta (CPI) also slammed the BJP-led NDA for repeated adjournment of the House, saying there were other pressing issues also on which discussions should be held.

Some of the issues are economic slowdown, recent incidence of grid collapse and nation-wide banking strike.

"Talks should be held on these as well. Though we are concerned about the coal scam, we want Parliament to run. It is not proper to disrupt the House for long. I appeal to all to reconsider what they are doing," he told reporters.

Though he felt that PM's "moral authority has been eroded in wake of the CAG report,'' Dasgupta said, "It is up to him whether he wants to resign or not."
