Govt to prune UP forces’ demand

The Centre is expected to drastically prune down the demand of the Uttar Pradesh government for providing 63,000 security personnel to deal with any law and order problem that may arise after the court verdict on Ayodhya title suits on September 24. After taking stock of the availability of Central paramilitary personnel, there is a move to deploy only 5,000 additional Central forces personnel in the state.
Home ministry officials maintained that it was practically impossible to provide 63,000 security guards to Uttar Pradesh due to the force constraint.
A large chunk of central forces have been deployed in Naxal affected states, Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast and along the international borders. “It is simply impossible to withdraw these forces and send such a huge number of personnel to just one state,” an official said. The MHA will also be deploying Central forces for CWG and six-phased Bihar Assembly elections next month. There are demands for Central forces from a few other states too to deal with the law and order problems. “Though we have not taken a final decision, we are planning to give 45 to 50 companies of Central force to UP” the official said.
A company of force comprises nearly 100 personnel. The MHA has already prepared a plan to deal with any situation arising out of the judgment.

Drawing a parallel between the Ayodhya judgment that is about to be delivered in a few days and his rath yatra which also began in September 1990, Mr Advani in his blog has called it a “coincidence.”
“What a remarkable coincidence it is that the Allahabad high court has announced last week that the bench considering the title suits relating to the Ayodhya dispute will pronounce its verdict on September 24. When in 1990, I decided to undertake a rath yatra from Somnath to Ayodhya where karsewa had been announced for October 30, I decided to commence my journey on September 25,” Mr Advani has mentioned in his blog.
Mr Advani has also mentioned the September 11 attacks on the twin towers, saying that the month of September is remembered by the world for this dastardly attack. Mr Advani adds that even though the twin towers have been brought down, the spirit of Indians and Americans cannot be harmed by the terrorists, in any way.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
