Govt to states: Tighten security ahead of 26/11
The government is likely to dispatch advisories to states asking them to remain vigilant ahead of the anniversaries of 26/11 and Babri Masjid demolition. The home ministry is expected to ask all major cities like Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai to take adequate steps to beef up security and tighten vigil against possible terrorist strikes and attempts by anti-national elements to disturb peace.
The advisory, which would be general in nature, would warn the states against attempts by terrorist outfits to target crowded market places, malls and vital installations in the cities around the same time as the 26/11 terror strike in Mumbai.
It would also ask the states to maintain law and order ahead of the December 6 anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition.
Government sources said that it is important to alert states against possible activities of Pakistan-based terror groups like Lashkar-e-Tayyaba, Jaish-e-Mohammed or home grown Indian Mujahideen which would be keen to target urban areas and cause visible damage in the run up to the two events.
The Centre will also the states and Union Territories to install CCTV cameras and other electronics gadgets like metal detectors as much as possible in crowded places to monitor movement of people at public places.
