Govt utility agencies delay T-3 ops
Domestic flight operations from the new integrated Terminal-3 at the New Delhi IGI airport will be delayed and will not begin from August 27 on account of erratic power and water supply (by Delhi government agencies) to the T-3 as well as inadequate road and metro rail connectivity to the T-3, the civil aviation ministry announced on
Friday. The Union government fears that passengers may be inconvenienced at the T-3 if domestic operations are added without ensuring adequate power and water supply.
The ministry will conduct a review by mid-September and a final decision will be taken only then.
Sources said that if the shortcomings regarding electricity and water (handled by the Delhi Transco and Delhi Jal Board respectively) are not satisfactory even then, domestic flight operations from the T-3 could begin only after the end of the Commonwealth Games in October. International flight operations have already commenced from the T-3 in July. The decision was announced on Friday morning after the visit of civil aviation minister Praful Patel and senior ministry officials to the T-3 on Thursday evening. The ministry is upset that the Delhi Transco has not fulfilled its commitment of commissioning a 220 KVA sub-station to meet the extra electricity requirement that would arise from domestic operations.
