Greed, jealousy likely motives
The crime branch officers Wednesday said Parvez Tak, along with the watchman of the Igatpuri farmhouse, hit all the six victims on their skulls causing multiple fractures. The only male victim was the one with maximum injuries. The police, who recovered the iron rod used by the duo, said after killing Selina over an altercation, the two first attacked Imran, 25, Laila’s cousin who they feared would be most resistant. “The initial reports of the doctors suggest the male body bears the maximum number of fractures. Tak attacked him first as he was the only man among the victims who would have given some resistance,” said Himanshu Roy, joint commissioner of police, crime.
Mr Roy said after committing the murders, the duo buried three bodies in a 12-foot-long, 8-foot-wide and 6-foot-deep pit that was already dug for a water tank. “They put a Shahabad stone over the bodies and above that placed the blood stained mattresses and pillows. They placed three other bodies on top of them and once again covered them with another stone before covering up the pit with mud. They put the stone so that animals would not sniff and dig up the bodies,” he said.
According to him, there are four plausible motives. “Tak, who is the third husband of Selina, said he was jealous Selina was in touch with her second husband Asif Shaikh even after they got married. Selina would often praise him. Secondly, he said he was feeling insecure the family was planning to relocate to Dubai and he did not have a passport. Thirdly, he was annoyed as Selina had given a power of attorney to Shaikh for selling her Mira Road property. Tak had got a PAN card made in the name of Selina’s first husband Nadir Patel. So there is a chance he might have killed the entire family to grab the property,” he said.
When asked whether Selina had refused to take Tak to Dubai with the family, Mr Roy said, “The story that he felt insecure because he did not have a passport seems rather implausible. So we are not buying that story.”
