The Guide is no more
Legendary Bollywood actor-director Dev Anand passed away in a London hotel on Saturday night due to cardiac arrest. He was 88. He died in his sleep at 10.40 pm. “He passed away in his sleep last night from sudden cardiac arrest,” the family said in a short statement. His son Suneil Anand was with him at the hotel when he died.
“Suneil told me last night Devsaab had put eyedrops in his eyes and closed them, then he just passed away. He tried to shake him awake, but there was no response. The emergency services too tried their best to revive him for 20 minutes,” a friend of the family, music director Raja Kaasheef, said outside the Washington Hotel at Mayfair, central London, where the actor-director breathed his last.
“He was in London to recuperate and work on the script for his update on his classic film, Hare Rama Hare Krishna,” Kaasheef said, adding that Dev Anand’s family members, including wife Kalpana Kartik and daughter Devina, would arrive in London soon.
There are unconfirmed reports that Dev Anand’s funeral will take place in London in the next few days, possibly Tuesday or Wednes-day, but there was no confirmation of this from the family or from Navketan Films UK.
