Gujarat moves top court over lokayukta case
In a swift move, the Gujarat government on Thursday filed an appeal in the Supreme Court against the state high court’s verdict on Wednesday upholding the appointment of Justice R.A. Mehta (retired) as lokayukta by Gujarat governor Kamla Beniwal without consulting chief minister Narendra Modi and his ministers.
The Modi government said the verdict was contrary to the basic principle of “federalism” in the Constitution, and was basically “wrong”.
