Gujjar protest enters ninth day
As the Gujjar agitation entered its ninth day on Tuesday, chief minister Ashok Gehlot lashed out at the BJP claiming the conspiracy to revive the agitation was hatched in Nagpur during a high-profile wedding function. The state government had decided to reserve four per cent posts for the Gujjars till it got a legal nod.
‘’I will comment only after going through the facts,” the chief minister said. “Whatever are able to provide Gujjars in light of high court verdict, we have done,” Mr Gehlot said. He appealed the community leaders to come for talks to resolve the issue.
In Pilupura, Gujjars continued to occupy tracks. Gujjar leader Dr Roop Singh said it was community’s agitation and had nothing with the BJP.
The effect of the prolonged agitation started showing its effect on business as cancellations hit tour operators and hotel owners. Not only tourism, but trade and industry are also reported to be suffering the brunt of agitation.
“It will take time to restore the Industry,” said leading tour operator Sanjay Kaushik in Jaipur.
Rajasthan tourism minister Bina Kak admitted that it was tough time for the industry. “In Jaipur itself, the tourism sector has been hit by 30 per cent loss following the agitation,” she said.
