Gujjar protests block Jaipur-Delhi rail route
The Gujjar protesters on Friday blocked rail route connecting Jaipur to Delhi in Dausa district, resulting in diversion of around 50 trains. The protesters also pelted stones at the police when the force tried to prevent the Gujajrs from blocking the train route. Meanwhile, the state government again made an appeal to the Gujjar leaders to join the talks.
The Gujjars assembled at Moradi village under Dausa district and moved towards rail lines under the leadership of BJP MLA from Alwar district Hem Singh Bhadana. The police had earlier appealed the protesters to not to block the railway lines, but the appeal went unheard.
According to an eyewitnesses, the police withdrew from the railway tracks while the mob threw continued throwing stones at the police. The state government has asked the police to maintain maximum restrain.
According to the railway authorities, the protest affected over 50 trains and forced to cancel movement of two trains. State home minister Shanti Dhariwal stated that situation was under control and the protest was peaceful, barring few sporadic incidents. “We again request the Gujjar leaders to join talks and issue will be resolved amicably,” Mr Dhariwal said.
“Our officials are in touch with Gujjar leader K.S. Bainsla and the government is ready to resolve the issue,” Mr Dhariwal said. Reacting to the government’s appeal, Mr Bainsla said his community will not call off the agitation till their demands were accepted.
