Gujjar woman denies rape: J&K police
The much-hyped case of alleged abduction and rape of a Gujjar woman at gunpoint by two uniformed men in the hills of Jammu and Kashmir’s
southern Kulgam district in the third week of July took a new turn on Tuesday when chief police investigator claimed the woman had denied she was
ever subjected to such an atrocity by anyone.
SP Kulgam Mubassir Latiefi and inspector Muhammad Shafi Mir, who heads the police special investigation team, told reporters that the woman has
deposed before the magistrate that she was not raped by anybody and she that had left her dokh (mud-shack) on her own in the morning of July 20,
which contradicts her own statement that she was abducted. Ruqaya Banoo, 27, had earlier alleged that she was abducted at gunpoint by two Army men
in combat dress who repeatedly raped her during her 36-hour-long captivity.
