Gurez avalanche: Death toll rises to three
The death toll in an avalanche in north Kashmir has risen to three, an official said on Wednesday.
"Three bodies have been recovered from under the avalanche debris in Badwan village of Gurez tehsil. With this the death toll in (Tuesday's) avalanche has risen to three," Aamir Ali, officer on special duty at the divisional headquarters, said.
"Two people were rescued from the avalanche debris after it had buried five people alive under it," Ali added.
The Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE) has issued a high danger avalanche warning in Drass area of the cold desert of Ladakh.
People have been advised not to move out of their homes and remain vigilant against any possible avalanches in the area.
Last month, 18 army soldiers were killed in Gurez when a massive avalanche rolled down the mountainside washing away the workshop of the brigade headquarters there.
