‘Gutka, financial firms against me’
Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Thursday said that a powerful lobby of non-banking financial institutions and gutkha companies are working against him.
Talking to reporters soon after his meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi, Mr Gogoi told reporters, “I don’t know if they have any alliance with dissident leaders of the state but I know that they are working against me after I decided to ban gutkha and launched drive against fake non-banking financial institutions in the state.”
Admitting for the first time that he was hurt by activities of his health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, chief minister said, “Yes once I trusted him a lot but I never thought of ditching me or going against me.”
Responding to a pointed question about his health minister, Mr Gogoi said, “I don’t indulge or believe in back biting. Let them do. Whom you trust most probably ditches you first in politics.”
