Guwahati on alert after market blast
The Assam police on Friday sounded a high alert in Guwahati and nearby areas following the arrest of three rebels of Manipur’s extremists group after a powerful bomb blast at Fancy Bazar on Thursday.
However, timely detection of the bomb helped the security forces in vacating the crowded areas on Thursday night, as a massive search is being carried out all across Guwahati on Friday to foil any such possible attempts by other modules that security forces are fearing. The security forces on Friday confirmed the involvement of the outlawed NDFB rebels who with the supports of Peoples Liberation Army of Manipur have been planning to trigger four explosions in and around Guwahati.
This came to light following the arrest of self-styled captain of the PLA Benjamin and two cadres who confessed before the security forces that their organisation, along with the anti-talk Daimary faction of the NDFB, had brought four bombs, of which one planted bomb at exploded at Fancy Bazar.
They were arrested by a joint team of the CRPF and police personnel from Chandmari area on Thursday night after the explosion, which did not cause any damage, security sources said.
Additional security forces have been deployed in the area and the security forces are searching for three other bombs, they said, adding that all police stations have been put on high alert.
Rs 1 lakh in cash, laptop, several CDs and documents were seized from the militants.
Meanwhile, in Sonitpur district, the Army and Assam Rifles stopped traffic movement between Tezpur and Dhekiajuli for three hours after detecting a powerful bomb under Dipota bridge about three km away from Tezpur.
The security sources indicated that the NDFB rebels may launch similar offensive in western Assam’s district targeting the railway track and security forces.
