Hackers deface city police website
You have to learn Japanese to browse Kochi city police website. This is not because there is a Kochi in Japan. The crime prevention tips given on the official website are in Japanese script!
Brilliant hackers have defaced some links given on the crime prevention tips page of city police website, www.kochicitypolice.org, entering picture language icons.
Interestingly, this has gone unnoticed for the past three years by the cyber wing of the city police.
Some links on the crime prevention tips page published on the website lead to a www.chennaicitypolice.org.
This website of Chennai city police did have tips for crime prevention till 2008, when the site was hacked and the web ID hijacked.
Chennai police have since then been using www.chennaicitypolice.gov.in as their official website.
But, the city police have been in oblivion for over three years and are yet to know that some crime tips on the site are of little help to people. Many phone numbers on the city police website are also wrong. The cyber cell, which takes care of the website updating, seems little concerned about the content accuracy.
Asked if the links provided on the official website of the city police were correct, the cyber crime investigation cell sub inspector Mr Francis Perrera replied that they are up to date, and the cyber wing keeps the site hack-free. “All phone numbers given on the website are correct. The links are also directed to correct websites.”
The cyber wing needs to check the Japanese links and if it does not fix the glitches, at least teach people a new tongue.
