Half-a-dozen states politically unstable?

About half-a-dozen states appear to become “unstable” for different factors, including changing political equations. These states are Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Bihar and Delhi, besides the election-going Gujarat.

If the demand of a separate Telangana state has not only made Andhra Pradesh “disturbed” ahead of the electoral battle, Karnataka could face a political instability if former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa floats a new party ahead of the state Assembly elections.
There, the Congress, the BJP minus Mr Yeddyurappa and the Janata Dal(S) are not in a position to give a stable government.
Maharashtra has been witnessing a fight between the ruling partners — the Congress and the NCP — for political space. Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan’s priority seems to check the Sharad Pawar-led party than providing a good government.
Interestingly, no party in Maharashra is in a position to come to power on its own.
This is because the coalition era has begun in the state since 1995.
In Bihar, the BJP is bracing itself to contest all 40 Lok Sabha seats without the ally Janata Dal(U).
“Yes, we are preparing to contest all 40 Lok Sabha seats from Bihar in the next general elections after taking into account all possibilities, including the JD(U) deciding to sever ties with us at some stage,” Bihar unit BJP president C.P. Thakur told PTI in Patna on Tuesday.
The BJP-JD(U) have come together to check Mr Lalu Prasad Yadav during the Samata Party days, that is for more than 15 years.
But the equations between the two could change if chief minister Nitish Kumar hardens his stand on certain issues, including his opposition to project Mr Narendra Modi as the NDA’s prime ministerial candidate.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
